Hey all I went to a mens AA stay sober retreat this past weekend and got a ton of solid tips to stay sober one that stuck out to me was below! Maybe you’ll like it! Share your top 5 below if you’d like!
A speaker was told if you wanna stay sober write down 5 past drunk or drugged experiences or stories of you while you were inebriated or messed up. By doing so it reminds you of who you were and it keeps that sour taste of what being drunk or drugged up life was like when we’re were using! By doing this you are actively reminding yourself what your life will be if you go back and who as a person YOU DON’T want to become!
My top 5 short stories today-
- I was so messed up on drugs and alcohol I would forget to clean my home. I would eat food everywhere and just throw my garbage on the ground or in my bed! When I woke up after a 2 week binge of being blacked out I woke up in my bed next to a pile of garbage, the garbage consisted of everything not just dry food but old chicken, and bad expired foods. The smell was one thing, but the grosses thing was seeing maggots crawling all over that garbage. I looked to the carpet and huge maggots were moving through the carpets and hiding in the crevices or fibers of the carpet! It was ONE of the grosses experiences of my life. I went to ace hardware and bought four packs of big home bombs and did them all even though they said to max out at one! Crazy thing was that still wasn’t enough for me to quit at that time.
2- waking up with a smashed broken nose from being mugged by 10 guys one night for rambling my mouth and thinking my S dodnt stink! The after math to that pride was waking up looking like a raccoon having bruises circled around my eyes and a broken nose that today still reminds me of drinking and what will happen if I go back!
3- getting alcohol poisoning the first time I drank. Drank an entire fifth of Russian vodka to impress my “SO CALLED FRIENDS,” at the time! Woke up completely naked on the couch with a massive bowl in my lap, and a link of 8 guys taking turns punching me as hard as they possibly could in my back to make me puke. I finally had enough of the hollow noise coming from the punches to my back and body and threw the bowl of puke all over the floor. Reminds you of who these ppl were when you thought they were your friends
4- driving my car late at night during a winter storm going fast as a drunk could go, finally hitting ice Andy car spun around 10 times before it being sliced in half from hitting a fire hydrant. If I had anyone in the car at the time they would have all died from the impact. I give this like the others a thank you to God my higher power. Today I would be sitting in jail with only 1 hour of outside time a day if it wasn’t for the grace God showed me that night
5- finding out I am on the brink of dying at the young age of 31 a year from my age now being 30 from the doc saying I’d I keep drinking my pancreas will give and lead to pancreatic cancer and have no time to live or recover.
By writing these down it reminds you of the life you had and will have if you drink or go back out and try again yo make a difference in drinking! So good luck the 5 you write down could be the only 5 you write you don’t necessarily need to write 5 everyday! Just remind yourself through some of the nonsense you went through while being on drugs and alcohol!
