A week ago today I woke up feeling absolutely defeated

A week ago today I woke up feeling absolutely defeated mentally and emotionally, just drained! But I thank God I stuck with my sober journey and worked through those emotions and didn't choose to self medicate with drinking. Although negative feelings creep in, I'm getting a little better each day at fighting those emotions. One more day sober is so much more fulfilling than a night of drinking to relax, clear the mind or have fun. God please bless us all on this journey and allow us to release control so we don't have to be overcome with the pressure and anxiety of this world.

Hi, Amanda. Congratulations on not giving in to alcohol and for your beautiful and thoughtful prayer. I have been feeling especially down more than lately. While I am proud of myself for remaining sober since mid-January this time around-done major crippling shame and guilt is rearing respective ugly heads. I realize that I cannot change the past in any shape and / or form. I am just feeling so down, paralyzed with shame and I seem unable to accomplish anything, even the most basic of tasks. ( pardon any, all typos:). I get that every emotion, feeling is truly temporary. So. I guess my point being: right, what Keenan relayed…truly, a beautiful prayer ( one which I needed to hear ). I am grateful for y’all, this community-thank you! Oh. And I will not drink with y’all today and tonight.:heavy_heart_exclamation:

Hey Sarim, happy my prayer was able to be a blessing for you and my post relatable! I'm new to this community and it has been ever so helpful especially in regards to not feeling alone fighting this disease. Something we have in common is shame and guilt but we must lay it at His feet and walk away emotionally and mentally. This is a challenging thing because for so long we tried to have control over our lives but we have to put all the control onto our Higher power. Also on our roughest days WE HAVE TO PUSH OURSELVES TO GET UP AND FUNCTION. Laying in our mess will not clean it up, it will only make it reek more and cause more havoc on our mental and emotional health. Be proud of how far you have come and start to get excited for your days to come while being sober! May God & your sobriety provide you with a peace of mind & good night's rest, guilt & shame only rob us of our joy in our current accomplishments. Stay well💜

You are on the right path my friend! I always tell my self it is so much easier to stay sober than to get sober. One day at a time. You are making great progress! Take good care and be safe!

Hey Cathy, thanks! And I like that, because it took ALOT of b.s. to happen to me in order to finally decide I needed to give it up, so I like that saying alot. Now it's all about unpacking all the emotional baggage I was suppressing by drinking but Rome wasn't built in a day so one day at a time will definitely work for my baggage. I give God all the glory because He has been so merciful while I was at my worst and patient while I'm trying to get to my best. Many blessings to you on the journey, stay safe💜

You’ve got this Amanda! Good things are coming your way
