I’ll have 5 years this week. It’s been a long and sometimes lonely journey. Those of us who are single know how hard it is to date sober these days. I’ve been patient but it’s me solo for a long time and I’ve been ready to meet someone for a while. Most attempts are foiled because “straight” people don’t understand us. I finally met a woman who does, she’s great. I’ve been 100% honest about my past and she is very understanding. Things are moving in the right direction (finally). It feels a little like my reward for making it… either way I’ll take it.
For those of you struggling with meeting someone, hang in there, don’t settle, and don’t think your partner has to be in recovery also, there are kind people who understand.
Good luck out there.
