Well, today marks one year without my dad. He passed away from alcohol related illnesses. My mom passed away in 2019 from addiction related illnesses as well. I am beyond grateful to be a little over 5 months sober and in a much better place than before. Some days it’s hard to remember that I don’t need to drink, even if I want to. Grief is a mess of an experience but I think it has helped to make my sobriety more “solid”. If anybody out there is struggling, keep going, one foot in front of the other. Take it a day, hour, minute at a time and don’t feel shy in reaching out for help as I think almost every alcoholic/addict in recovery couldn’t do this thing alone

Hi Tom,
I'm very sorry for the loss of your parents. Grief is quite an ongoing experience. I didn't lose my parents to drugs/alcohol. Nonetheless, I miss dearly. Everyday.
So I understand.
Alone time is necessary for all at challenging time.
We're going to struggle. Lean on God or your higher power always.
Prayers for you.

Thank you for the kind words! Getting in touch with God has been a struggle for me in early sobriety but I’m working on it. I’m just so blessed and grateful to be here today
You're welcome. All the best to you.
