A young man once asked the buddha how to overcome

A YOUNG MAN ONCE ASKED THE BUDDHA HOW TO OVERCOME FEAR. THIS WAS THE BUDDHA'S RESPONSE...

A young man once came to the Buddha and said, “I am afraid of losing everything. I am afraid of failure, rejection, illness, death, and what tomorrow might bring. How can I live peacefully when fear follows me everywhere?”

The Buddha looked at him quietly and asked, “What are you holding in your hands?”

The young man looked down. “Nothing.”

The Buddha said, “Yet you are afraid of losing so much.”

The young man was confused.

The Buddha continued, “Fear often grows from wanting life to remain exactly as we wish it to be. We want people to stay. We want our health to remain. We want our plans to succeed. We want tomorrow to be certain.”

“But life does not promise certainty.”

“Everything you love is changing. Your body is changing. Your relationships are changing. Your circumstances are changing. Even your thoughts change from one moment to another.”

The young man asked, “Then how do I stop being afraid?”

The Buddha replied:

“Do not try to make life completely safe.”

“Learn to become steady within an unsafe world.”

“Accept that some things will leave.”

“Accept that some plans will fail.”

“Accept that you cannot control what tomorrow brings.”

“Then ask yourself: ‘What can I do with this moment that is in front of me?’”

The young man remained silent.

The Buddha continued:

“When fear comes, do not immediately believe everything it tells you.”

“Breathe.”

“Observe it.”

“Understand it.”

“Then act according to wisdom rather than panic.”

“Fear says, ‘What if everything goes wrong?’”

“Wisdom asks, ‘What is actually happening right now?’”

“Fear says, ‘I cannot handle losing this.’”

“Wisdom says, ‘I will cherish it while it is here, and if it changes, I will learn how to let go.’”

Then the Buddha gave him a final lesson:

“You do not overcome fear by guaranteeing that nothing painful will ever happen.”

“You overcome fear by discovering that even when life hurts, you can remain present, compassionate, and courageous.”

The young man finally understood.

The goal is not to live without fear.

It is to stop allowing fear to make your decisions.

Because the more you accept that life is uncertain, the less you need certainty to feel at peace.

You stop waiting for the perfect conditions to live.

You love while people are here.

You act while opportunity is present.

You appreciate what you have without demanding that it last forever.

And slowly, something changes.

You realize that courage isn't the absence of fear.

Courage is saying, “I am afraid, but I will still live.”

That is when fear begins losing its power over you.

Thanks Brian! Wisdom :sparkles:

Realizing you cannot lose what you were never holding anyway puts things right into perspective. Doing the next right thing instead of trying to bulletproof tomorrow is the way to walk through life. Appreciate this share.
