Both are good
My sponsor always told me that if I’m doing both to make sure I respect the room I’m in. I know alcohol and drugs are both the same. But I call myself an alcoholic in one and an addict it another.
Understood. I always say alcoholic also. Just every now and then the “addict” word slips out. Shouldn’t matter is all. Point being, if you have an alcohol addiction then guess what, you’re an addict. Lol
I introduce myself as an alcoholic/addict. If anyone ever had a problem with that, they never voiced it to me and I never noticed it. My addiction involves many symptoms. There’s not enough days in the week for me to hit the different meetings if I had to go to meetings for all the different substances and behaviors I used to numb my pain. I try and be respectful and keep my shares to alcoholism, so I concentrate mostly on the “isms” which are the same with all of the programs. Most everyone I know in AA has struggled with more than just alcohol, and appreciate my honesty.
I talked to someone recently that is only an alcoholic and it was hard for me to understand because my mind is more like if it’s gonna mess me up then sign me up but this person didn’t have that mentality and that’s mind blowing to me. I thought everyone has that obsession with anything that numbs them out and they dont. And I think it’s because they just never tried it but that’s prob not a healthy approach so… good for them
I never tried “hard drugs” because I didn’t want to risk getting addicted, so I just drank every day for 25 years

I say that I’m in recovery.
Haha well if you did you still end up here lol
Exactly. I’m the only one who listened to Nancy Reagan and all I got was my 2 year chip
Haha 2 year chip and a bunch of catchy sayings “say nope to dope”
Some AA meetings care about the addict thing and some don't. Find the ones you're comfortable in and go to those. All of the Agnostic/secular AA meetings I attend are fine with either, they don't make a big deal about it at all of you call yourself an addict. The traditional meetings people usually just say "alcoholic" but then they still mention other stuff during leads or comments.
