AA Goers- Question for you!

My one year of sobriety is coming up and I've been trying to figure out how I want to spend the day with myself. I thought about inviting friends to do something, but this day is so special to me I want to spend it with like minded people in recovery.

I have not followed the AA program. I went to one meeting with a friend a few months before fully submerging myself into recovery. The stories told at the meeting were the missing piece for me to fully admit I had a problem and was indeed struggling with alcoholism.

So my question! Is it appropriate and acceptable to go to my second meeting and thank the community as a whole for starting me on this journey? Since I went a different route (CrossFit & lots of therapy) I was uncertain if they'd want to hear my story. Thoughts? Thank you❤️

Congratulations on a near year. If you made it that far you’ve done something right. I’m an active AA member and your story is important. I’d definitely encourage you to go share your story and possibly go every once in a while, you have an opportunity to build a strong group of like minded friend through the program. I heard in your share that you’d possibly like to start helping others like they helped you. AA is a great venue to help others. Great going on your sobriety

You should go and get your one year chip, I also don't follow AA. But, I went to rehab and go to my rehab center during their open house in Oakland and get a chip.

Want me to with you? I'm in San Leandro, but might be working out in Dixon next week..

Go get your metal. You’ve earned it. Don’t have to share story. Just get known and enjoy the congrats. Best way to celebrate that hard weaned recovery. Around others in it. Hit an NA meeting while your at it. Get your metal chip there also. Can never have enough. Afterall, alcohol is also a drug.
