About 30 days into my sobriety and although i feel physically so much better and feel stronger , i feel so uncomfortable emotionally with my feelings , i feel uncomfortable being in any social setting, when people try to hug me or sit too close to me in general , i just feel so uncomfortable with myself as a person which causes me to have major anxiety which before I would solve with a drink…..
I feel you. What helped me when I had time in was to just let it happen and accept it. Your emotions will forever be all over the place that’s one thing iv learned. It’s hard but worth it.
Sounds about right. When numbed by booze, we didn’t care. Now we have to face the emotional and social issues within ourselves. It gets easier as time goes on. Like Kyle said, just let it happen. Like anything with more practice we get better. It took me months to feel more comfortable in my own skin. Keep your head up. And good job on the first of many months!
It’ll get better
I’m 4 months in and the social anxiety is getting better. I pray and meditate. Exercise is also a huge help. I try in social situations to breathe before speaking and ask others questions to take the focus off of me and let them talk. Wear ur sobriety like a badge of honor! I’ve found people really are curious and most are very supportive!
I can definitely relate. Got clean from heroin after trying repeatedly to try to kick for 20 years. And when I did finally I didn't want to go anywhere because I was terrified of using again, and I felt like I had no confidence in myself or anything. Got into therapy and that really made all the difference. Hang in there, and stick with it. Things will change for the better. I promise.
