Addiction in a family. What to do? Memorial weekend speeding

Addiction in a family. What to do? Memorial weekend speeding towards us, big time scheduled with friends and family. As the father and head of the family I don’t have enough credibility to be much of an influencer (16 days sober … this time). Drinking and over drinking will be the theme. Not everyone will be there as one step daughter is headed to rehab today, but the rest seem oblivious to the obvious. We all have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol. I am committed to my sobriety but how do I try to change the course I see for the rest of the family? Does anyone else feel that you see the problems in others more clearly when your the only one that’s sober?

For sure you see it. The thing is there is nothing you can do about it. People will only accept their own sobriety when they come to it on their own. You can show them the door, they need to walk through it. My advise to you is be prepared to walk away. Right now your own sobriety is the most important thing. My sponsor said to me very early on, “don’t be where you don’t need to be.” Make sure you have an escape if you feel the urge to drink. Good luck bud!

Thank you, that helps.

Be an example. Perhaps by next next holiday one of them will want what you have found :peace_symbol:

Not your problem.
