Breath sit down cross legged and cont your breaths on the exhale until you get to 10 then start over
Take magnesium citrate. At least that's what I do
Bust out that phone list and reach out to people in the program. You can do it Melanie!
Practice breathing exercises as Aspen just mentioned. Also try grounding techniques. There are 3 types of grounding techniques; mental, physical and soothing grounding techniques.
Mental grounding is trying to say the alphabet backwards, naming all 50 states and capitals, counting cieling tiles and light fixtures in a waiting room etc.
Physical grounding is running your hands under warm or cold water, grasping the arms the chair and releasing them, touch various objects around you in your pocket and describe what they feel like in your mind, stretch, focus on your breathing and notice each breath. Slowly inhale through the nose and slowly exhale through the mouth.
Soothing grounding is giving yourself kind statements ie "you've been through a lot, you'll get throught this, this too shall pass." Think of your favorite color, animal, season, food, time of day, TV show, song etc. Think of and/or look at pictures of people you care about. Think of favorite quotes, poems or songs. Think of safe places where you felt safe the beaches, mountains, or a room you felt safe in etc and focus on the sounds, colors, textures and objects.
It takes practice to do this without being reminded but they do work.
Melanie! Great job sharing! Much love to you today!
Just breathe! You shared, which is so brave!
Be kind to yourself, sobriety is all about practice. Practice compassion for self. Practice breathing and refocusing. Remember, you CAN do this!
