Advice!

I’m feeling pretty UNGRATEFUL lately, and i’m not liking it at all. Anything you guys do to help get a positive mindset?

Gratitude journal. I tell everyone this. Gratitude is the antidote to misery. Have a small note book and write every little cool or good thing that happened and things you’re grateful for. It can be as small as seeing a unique bird. Finding a quarter on the ground. The more you notice these things and acknowledge it, the more cool and great things happen. Do it everyday for a month.

Hi Talia. Good on you for recognizing that YOU’RE in control of your outlook. Volunteering can work wonders. I recommend the “hands on” stuff. Food banks, clothing drives, etc.

I tend to try to help newcomers when I get like this… it seems this will always present a new outlook and helps in ways I never see coming. Just getting more into the program and the people.

Absolutely agree with Jo. Even if it’s something small to be grateful for. That and prayer is always a great way to change that mindset !

All of the above

You on your worst day is better than 90% of others on their best day!

Try looking at the positives instead of the negatives. Sit down each day no matter how negative you are and list 10 positive things about yourself or your surroundings or what is happening in your life. At first it might take awhile to think of that many but do it anyway even if you think they are stupid. Don’t judge yourself and make that list. It will get better and it will be rewarding.

I agree with all above statements, but also its wise to acknowledge whats not so great so u dont end up bottling ur emotions. Space the negative out, beginning of the week, write one thing out u wish u could change and find ur options. And then when u find ur opportunity be grateful for those options in order to change. Its nit easy and not accomplished over night. Stay strong!

Take yourself out to a restaurant.

Simply thank your Higher Power for your life and your sobriety. Ask your HP for guidance and direction. Try to get out of yourself by doing service work or volunteering.

Hey Talia, I’m struggling with that too. The first time I overdosed, I was super grateful to be alive. This time, I’m just not. I just wanted to tell ya that I’m with you. Many others feel the same way too. Let’s keep fighting! One day at a time.

Journaling has been somewhere I go when I’m feeling really, really dark and alone.

I’m dragging today myself but I’m not sleeping well and starting from zero, again? But I’m starting a new job on Monday and I keep trying to do what comes next? I’m going to a meeting and I’m trying to stay in gaged with family. I’m talking with my dog d

I’m really trying to stay positive and stay focused on what the good things are in my life. Don’t beat yourself up! Tell yourself you are beautiful, cause you are

I used to be like that however it takes time&efforr,
Breathe in four times deeply through your nose imagine t he scent of flowers and exhale slowly and think about blowing out candles I do this every day some days more than ever I pray in the morning w/ my litt devotional books 1st I Thank God for waking me up to an
Day remember each day is a fresh start make sure you get your rest & eat some healthy foods and keep hydrated I like Gatorade Zero the has helped me considerable!! Notice nature take a walk look @ pretty flowers & pretty skies and birds be appreciative of God’s beauty, love & support it works… Good luck & May God direct you!!

Most all of the good things in my life are because of my recovery. I give thanks to my higher power every night for my recovery. In the morning I used to wake up with complaints. I’ve learned to thank my higher power for letting me wake up to experience another day and for my recovery! I woke up this morning and a lot of people did not. I start out my day with gratitude. I have the opportunity to experience today. I am not a slave to a substance. Today I have a choice!! I can have guilt over my past…worry over my future or enjoy the right here and now doing the next right thing today in the here and now. My past is in my past unless I bring it into my future. Hope this helps

Call alcoholics/addicts with less time than you or just those people in general. Ask them how they are doing and simply listen :ear:t4:. The phone calls alone will take you away from our favorite thing to think about ourselves. Truth is if you are alive (not dead, in jail or a mental institution) to write that post and ask for help, you are winning, so be grateful for that. Also, what you think isn’t happening now, might happen at some point in the future. If we really work this program, we don’t run our lives anymore and having the patience to change our perspective and work on things like faith and listening is what most of us struggle with. I get ungrateful when I get upset with how I think my life is supposed to be going and I forget that I should be dead or in prison, but I was spared by grace and I need to always find gratitude in that and that is where I start, but it definitely is not always easy.

Just be grateful for waking up each morning.. I stay busy all day.. just taking care of my animals and the house.. there’s always something to do.. I talk to God all day.. he gives me strength to get thru each day.. I live in a bad situation and trying to find a way to move.. I go to a meeting when I’m having a bad day.. I live by the Serenity Prayer.. I have to except the things I can’t change.. and be grateful for what I have..
