Alcohol was but a symptom of our problem!

Alcohol was but a symptom of our problem! We have to get down to causes and conditions. Ever since I found this app, I find hundreds and hundreds of people that are trying to get sober on willpower alone. Their efforts seem to be in vain.

It's kind of like a drunken horse thief. When you get the horse thief sober all you have left is a sober horse thief. The changes have to be made from within or we are sure to drink again.

Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path. Those who do not recover are people who cannot or will not completely give themselves to this simple program. Usually men and women who are constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves.

I like this train of thought, in terms of spiritual malady. It makes sense from an immaturity aspect as well. As alcoholics our development in intellectual, emotional, and spiritual matters was stunted. We never matured the way others did.

The problem I have with this train of thought is when it is used to rationalize use. It is not the change in circumstance that will set us free. It is the way we react and adjust to those circumstances that will set us free.

Good post, Dave.

Thanks for your input Shawn.
Glad you found some excitement in martial arts due to sobriety. Sobriety definitely opens many doors.

Ha I rolled with a blue belt tonight and I tapped about a hundred times. lol oh and I heard someone talking about a horse thief a couple times at a meeting and didn’t know what they were talking about. Now I know.
