It's hard to stop it's like a craving that I have and it's hard for me to shake off at times but I can go months without it then boom I'm back drinking again

Nicole, thanks for sharing. I was a periodic drinker for awhile. Then a binge drinker, and at times a daily drinker. I learned that my drinking was progressive. It was fun, then fun with problems and then mostly problems.
I finally realized I am an alcoholic and needed help. Thank Goodness I finally stopped the mind games with myself and got deep into AA. 16 + years of mostly happy sobriety. Just wish I did it sooner.

You are not alone sister over time this will ease and go away you just have to want it bad enough and be desperate and willing to do anything to quit

I am here always always if you need to talk:heart::heart:

You can do it,taper down if you can't cold turkey,go to the doctor or ER if you're able

Can you define what's hard when the craving hits? Then you can conquer it.

Totally get that. The mental tug-of-war is real. Proud of you for saying it out loud.

Go to meetings, read your big book, do things that bring joy to you but Don't give up this time stay strong:muscle:t6::muscle:t6::muscle:t6::muscle:t6:

If your insurance situation covers Vivitrol injections :syringe: I would recommend that. I'm a severe drug addict and alcoholic. I have had no cravings for Heroin or Alcohol in months since. It tricks your receptors in your brain to think you don't need substances anymore.

The cravings will gradually subside but the danger lies in that first drink. It's cunning, baffling, ad powerful. After time goes by you just sort of forget how bad it really was and the temptation of the first drink can happen. Stay strong and get with a group to journey through recovery together.
