Alcoholism and mental illness do not discriminate. I think a very healing part for me was reminding myself that "they" are just like me, and deciding to finally walk into an AA meeting.
The world makes AA and "alcoholism" such a daunting thing, but it's really no different than having an issue with eating sugar or even high blood pressure.
If you are struggling, make the decision to go to just one meeting and listen to the stories. You'll quickly realize that it's really not that daunting, and there's an entire community of people joining together to BEAT this disease. Read that again... DISEASE! The alcohol is merely a symptom of a disease that some fight and others don't. Do not take it as your identity, but take overcoming it as such!
People say that getting help or admitting that you're mentally burnt out is "weak", but truthfully, it's the strongest and bravest thing you can ever do. YOU DESERVE TO LIVE A HAPPY LIFE! You're the only one that can make that choice though
.
I am grateful to be sober and to be healing!!
