All my autoimmune disorder friends. I'm really struggling. I'm in the middle of a bad flare up and I just want to drink away the pain. I know it's not a fix. I know that drinking is a contraindications to the harsh meds I'm on. I know that drinking cause worse inflation but on day's like today I just want to give up. Its not just the pain. The fatigue and depression that accompanies it is just as brutal. Does anyone have any good feed back or coping skills. Maybe just some words of encouragement. I'll take anything at this point.
Hey Stephanie! I’m so sorry to hear about your struggles with your autoimmune disorder. While I don’t suffer from this debilitating health problem directly, it has impacted the life of my family in a huge way. I’ve seen up close the toll it takes on a persons physical and mental health. Flare ups are generally common occurrence throughout the year whether they are hormonal or stress induced. One thing for absolutely certain is that drinking/drugging will only numb the pain in the very short run. Drinking only leads to depression and more flare ups. It’s important that you keep your mental health strong. I suggest finding spiritual ways to calm your mind and find peace. Ultimately, the same tools that will help you with your recovery from alcohol, will also benefit you with dealing with your autoimmune disorder. I believe you would do great with a daily program of recovery to combat your daily health conditions. I hope you feel better

@stephanie134225 not sure which condition you struggle with but I can empathize. I have U.C. there are days when I have a flare up I can't even leave the house to get the mail. When things were at their worst, I literally got up from bed and went to the living room; and the only time I would get up was to go to the bathroom. It was all I had the strength for. The isolation of it is a nightmare, the feeling conspicuous when you can get out and embarrassment of the condition is sometimes overwhelming.
I said all that to say this...hold on, better days will come. You can succeed. I had to decide years ago I would go forward even when I didn't feel like it. People may not understand, but I don't care anymore. I chose to win.
Do you take supplements to lower Inflammation? I have an autoimmune disease thanks to having Lyme untreated for 15 years (unknown to me). Doctors haven’t been very helpful so I spent 2 years studying and researching and was able to understand my health better so I can make my own decisions.. and that is when my health started to get better.
There are some supplements you can take that would lower your inflammation. taking them regularly works better cause it’s harder to reverse a flare up than it is to prevent one.
- Terry Naturally Pain Relief (turmeric, boswellia, phenylalanine.. all great anti-Inflammatories. You can take 1 a day instead of the 3 they recommend. The ingredients in this supplement are higher quality so I wouldn’t bother getting a different brand to save money.. no other turmeric supplement has helped me but this one and it’s a multi-ingredient supplement)
- Glutathione (the master antioxidant)
- infrared light therapy.
I highly suggest buying a far infrared mat to lay on
These are things are not likely to interfere with medications but always take breaks from supplements from time to time and of course check with your doctor. For the most part, it’s the blood clotting and blood pressure meds that have dangerous contraindications. I don’t know enough details to say much more
Uhg MS sucks. And I know drinking will only exacerbate my illness. I guess I turned to alcohol to disapear from my reality... not helpful physically and emotionally. I guess I'm just going to have to find better coping skillson days like this.
I will be mindful of you and your struggles Stephanie when I meditate. Hope to pass along some positivity and hope. Prayers
