Almost 7 months sober and the loneliness is really getting to me. It's hard to make new human connections
I’m finally getting back into real meetings and not just zoom anymore. It’s helping. 7 months is amazing!
Sobriety is a sometimes lonely cause. It's definitely one of the drawbacks. Drugs and alcohol were my social lubricant and while things are great, it can be a solo mission sometimes. Better than the option though. Hang in there, it's a noble cause.
Yea the loneliness has been getting to me lately as well. I’m at 8 months and I have been feeling lonely the last few days. To the point where I almost texted my ex. Which would have been a bad idea. Good thing I called one of my sober friends who told me not to do it. I’ve always done things by myself that’s just me. But after being in a relationship with someone for 5 years and best friends for 7 I kind of miss that. I spent this last thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and birthday by myself. Although I had a good time on my birthday I miss enjoying it with someone. Well my point is you’re not alone. N I can relate
Real stuff. Even a weekend let alone, months and on . Real friends won’t be dumb about it and consider your well being.
You are awesome
Being human today is ruff , let alone newly sober and trying to figure out selves out . I’m at almost 7 months . I feel this deep . I’ve been really trying to put myself out there and make friends or even acquaintances . Womens meetings have been a life saver for me
hang in there
Hello Becky: Congratulations on your time! Loneliness is certainly an issue in recovery. Personally, if I don't pick up the telephone and call others in recovery I might be forgotten about after a while. Please reach out to people!
Have you tried going to meetings? It's a good place to meet people who have gone through what your going through. Don't be ashamed or embarrassed, everyone there has walked into a meeting for their first time too.
The loneliness has been hitting me especially hard lately. I don’t know why. I am currently staying with family, thank god, otherwise I don’t know where this train of thought would take me.
It feels like, almost every day, even the smallest things, like trips to Walmart for some random thing and I’ll see all these other “normal” people just living their lives with girlfriends, wives, lives, etc. I feel like an alien on this planet some days.
Having no real human connection is a really tough place to be.
Congratulations!!!
Raymond, You sound like you are going through some depression, which is not uncommon in sobriety. Do you have a therapist? They can help immensely. I have one.
this rough period will pass eventually. W
I agree with Angelo. I got to meetings regularly, both on Zoom and in person. There I find people going through the same things as me, plus I get support. When I know that I’m not the only one it really helps.
