Closing in on day 5 of my first crack at sobriety. Feeling pretty hopeful, so far.
Nice work Andrew…. Are you attending meetings?
Thanks Luis! I am not. I have been trying to just keep myself busy, but I know I will need to find a community near me for long-term success
Getting to meetings/sober support group etc is crucial to staying sober, especially early on. Get connected, man!
Thanks for the advice. Do you have any recommendations for any non AA groups?
Why non AA? No judgement, just wanna point you in the right direction
I'm not into the higher power aspect. I have gone to meetings in the past and it wasn't for me
I can dig it. As many here know, I'm an atheist. No higher power or anything. The closest thing I get to it is knowing that my actions affect other people. And that's a really good reason to stay sober. I do go to AA, have for 15 months ths now, and I love it. But i keep it in perspective. It's a program. A program is to reprogram my f<cked up brain so I can be a sober, better person.
AA is like a buffet There's a lot there, but I don't have to take everything. The main thing is the fellowship. The buddy system. Make sober network friends. That's it. Same as hanging out in a bar. But sober. I didn't agree with everyone I drank with on their beliefs either, but it never stopped me.
That's cool man. So what are these non AA suggestions?
This is super new for me. I’m not into the AA meetings as well. Do you want to stay connected just for sharing anything at anytime? Feel free to friend me.
Sure that sounds good. I friended you
Great job brother!
Appreciate it Ty!
I do Secular AA meetings which are great, no religious stuff, just sobriety. Also I do the zoom meeting with the Satanic Temple Sober Faction. It is NOT Satanic though. Look into it. Worth a check out.
Thanks! I'll look into those
Congrats on making it this far! For me, keeping busy is the key, too. Good luck & feel free to chat any time.
Thanks so much! I definitely need all the advice and support I can get
Yep. Do the meetings. GET A SPONSOR and make some accountability pals. If you do that, won't always be easy but you should be good! Congrats on the step bro and welcome to the community!
A lot of people are fixated on the higher power aspect. It’s really not religious at all. Full disclosure I’m not an AA person. But maybe it’d help you!!
Thanks Adam!
