Am I doing the right thing?

My partner is 5 days out from his last drink and I took him to the emergency room because he is hallucinating and I have no idea how to handle this. He didn’t want to come but one of his hallucinations asked him to get her a soda from the hospital.

When I was withdrawing I went through pretty terrifying hallucinations… but there was honestly no better place I needed to be rather then the hospital.. alcohol withdraws are the deadliest kind.. so the hospital is the best place for him. God bless you guys. Praying for you two.

You absolutely did the right thing. Detox from alcohol can be FATAL. He is fortunate you were cating enough to take him. Sending y'all love, light, and prayer.

You absolutely were right. He is definitely coming off the alcohol. He needs to probably be medically detoxed and put on withdrawal meds.:pray:.

Heck yeah that was right! Day 3-5 was the worst part for me. He definitely needs to be monitored and medically detoxed… great job catching it.

I’m gonna back up everyone else on here and say you ABSOLUTELY did the right thing. The hospital is thee best place for him right now. You should be proud of yourself for getting the help he needs.

Stay strong, you can get through this.

If he was hallucinating he was having BAD withdrawal. Withdrawal from alcohol can kill you. you did the right thing.

Yea you did good. A good doctor will get him on medication for that and the shakes. I am many years sober but did do myself dirty and have some nerve damage and have shakes at times still. Might be good to get him in a proper detox facility or rehab for a minute to get him the medication that will work. Doesn't have to be long, just even a week or even an out patient thing.

You did the right thing it was either a hospital or a detox that he needed to be in. And with hallucinations that bad a center would most likely have transfered him to a hospital. The biggest part is making sure he gets the care and support he needs. Look into a PHP and meeting for him

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words! He’ll be leaving the hospital today and the hospital social worker will be helping us find care and he’ll be attending his first meeting tonight.
Doctor said it was the worst case of withdrawal he’s seen on the job so I’m happy with my decision.
