Anniversary

I just made it to my one year anniversary. It was hard getting here but now I’m experiencing loneliness. In the past when I had gotten lonely, I would run back to the alcohol. I don’t want to do that anymore. Any tips?

Congratulations on 1 year! That’s a great achievement! As for making friends I know going to meetings is a good place to start. Depending on where you live many cities also have meet up groups, maybe see if there are any in your area?

When you’re lonely get to a meeting.
Works every time for me.

Thanks for the reminder! My ego/disease/addiction wants me back! Lonely, irritable & discontent are just a few of the negative feelings that I identify that my disease uses to weaken me. It wants me dead, but will settle for my misery!
I found that actually practicing & meditating daily on UNCONDITIONAL LOVE for everyone including myself is the best tool I’ve ever used to improve my mental & emotional health. Works every time!
I hope this helps :gift_heart:

I’ll add to the endorsement of meetings. You’ll have the instant bond with everyone of having been to heck and back. (Wow, we really can’t say h**l, huh?) Helping newcomers is one of the best ways to feel whole.

Also, start picking up some hobbies that are conducive to social interaction.

Congrats on a year, that’s huge! God bless!:pray:

I was going to meetings at first then I slowly drifted away from going. I’m going to start going back and get me another sponsor

This is the answer. No matter what is going on in my life, the answer is always more AA.

Right on! Meetings are for fellowship and helping newcomers. Getting a sponsor is where you actually work the program and take the Steps for the first time.

And if you go all in on in - lean hard into willingness - you will have a new design for loving and a profound shift in perspective which will change your whole approach and attitude to life. It’s not the most pleasant work - cleaning house and getting our lives in order never is - but it’s WELL worth all the effort!:pray:
