I’m at 12 days sober but have a big challenge ahead of me this weekend. I’m visiting family and I already stocked them up with expense beer and liquor for the holiday. Telling them I’m not going to have any of it with them will be interesting. Wish me luck.
Good luck! But also, go get yourself something fancy and nonalcoholic to drink! Sitting and drinking water can get boring fast. Get yourself some NA beers or NA mixers, soda, cider, hot cocoa- whatever it is that you enjoy the taste of that’s NA
Love the suggestion! Thanks
I like this Kate! Instead of feeling sorry for yourself, get proactive and treat yourself to something nice. Staying sober requires exactly this type of attitude adjustment. Enjoy your holidays Ryan! Reach out if you are struggling. Nobody has to alone anymore. There are 10’s of thousands of us that will be with family and around alcohol and family drama. Let’s stay connected and sober!
Use my 3 hour rule.
After 3 hrs you leave for a meeting. That is plenty of time for a meaningful visit.
No NA Beer. No more buying alcohol for anyone, especially yourself.
Hi Ryan, working on 6 days here myself congrats buddy. Personally I plan on smugly drinking from a giant half gallon jug of lemon water and looking as healthy as possible. Generally makes drunk people feel self conscious and will make you feel like a boss. Good luck!
For hit a meeting before you go there. Try and do 90 meetings in 90 days. Do you have any sober people you can call?
Congrats on your 12 days! I have a similar upcoming situation and am trying to navigate that but am confident that I can pass on the alcohol as long as I make it known that I'm not drinking that night right away, that way it will hold me accountable. Good luck!
I know you want to be accommodating for them and that’s how I was. When I stopped drinking I stopped supplying alcohol. I did warn them ahead of time, no one said a thing and it seemed like people drank way less when I stopped. The only alcohol I buy is a bottle of wine for my grandparents on occasion, they love it
And do as Kate said, have something special for you besides water:)
