Any advice on coming off the booze safely? I don’t feel comfortable going to the hospital, doctors make my anxiety spike like crazy. I’m done it twice on my own in the past with no issues, I just feel a lot more sick this time.
Better safe than sorry. Detox from alcohol can cause seizures (I’ve had one) and they absolutely can be fatal. Find an ER or medical detox and tell them what’s going on. They can perhaps give you something for the anxiety too. Anxiety is preferable to serious co pmi around or death as a result of a cold turkey detox. Please think about it.
Serious complications *^
What would the average stay be, in terms of days?
Probably 2-3 depending on how much you’ve been drinking and maybe your insurance.
Yeah like Brent said better to be safe. I've taken Librium before, years ago when I got sober & used to drink all throughout the day. Wish u the best of luck
Don’t play around with detoxing on your own. Make sure to tell them when you go in you need a detox, and be honest about the amount and frequency of the drinking you have been doing.
Honestly, I’m anti-doctor. I don’t trust them, and I don’t like modern medicine. But, I had to go to the ER when I was at a point where I couldn’t even get water down without puking up blood. I told them exactly what I had been doing and what I was experiencing.
They didn’t make me feel bad about it or shame me in any way. They got to work. Gave me IVs for everything, including anxiety, and detoxed me over several days.
My liver was also failing. I was yellow, literally. They had to flush my whole system and pump tens of thousands of dollars worth of drugs into my system just keep me alive. The doctors and nurses were very kind and helpful. There was nothing about it that gave me unnecessary anxiety once I finally made the choice to stop and get help.
You need professional help to detox. Don’t do it alone.
This is all coming from a die hard libertarian who values his independence over everything and hates modern socialized medicine.
How’re you feeling?
A lot of fluids
I’d go the safe route. I never did but should have. They have detox clinics that are 2-5 days.
I’m on day 4 with no booze and feel amazing. Last week I went hard and was hitting about a 5th a day I woke up on the last day and felt like I was gonna die I drank a little just to not get the shakes and then decreased it a little each day till I felt normal again. Hot showers, relaxing and staying out of the heat helps for me
I’ve been Hospitalized five times now for withdrawals. Every time the doctors told me that it’s very important that I did come in because possible seizures for increased heart rate.
I actually asked the emergency department doctor if when somebody comes in that is withdrawing, do you kind of take the side of well that’s what you get for drinking? The doctors reassured me that that is not the case. They are very non-judgmental which meant They were there to support me and give me what it takes to get through the withdrawal. I was hospitalized for three days and one time even placed in intensive care unit.
I’m going to inpatient program to assist me and eventually overcoming this substance use disorder of alcohol.
I went to my family doctor and she prescribed me Librium for me to start taking on my day 1 and then had me go back weekly to check in until I was off the Librium.
