Any book recommendations?

My addiction is cocaine and this is my 14th day being sober. Along with the cocaine I found myself diving into alcohol and smoking weed a lot I think to help the come down.

Anyway this is the longest I haven’t used to be honest and my mind is like a sponge. I’m watching a lot of educational or informational YouTube videos and podcasts but I haven’t read in so long.

Are they any book recommendations that were helpful or inspiring? I definitely want to keep this momentum going and I think immersing myself into a book would be fun to keep my mind occupied.

My Fair Junkie by Amy Dresner is fantastic. We Are the Luckiest by Laura McKowen. Lit by Mary Karr.

The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous worked and continues to work for me! It can be helpful/related to all addictions as well.

Thank you!

For sure! It's amazing that the book was written in the 1939 but my life story can be found in the pages. I recommend reading it with a highlighter and/or pen to mark thinks that stand out to you or that you relate to.

Is it a book I can get at Barnes and Noble?

Yes, it is a book. Not sure about Barnes and Noble though. I got mine at an AA meeting or you can get one on Amazon. I highly recommend picking one up at a meeting though.

No worries man. I've learned that we can't do this on our own. It's definitely a "WE" program. Just know that you are not alone anymore. If I can also recommend, download the Meeting Guide app. It shows you every meeting near you wherever you are. There are meetings all day/night 7 days a week.

Thanks so much I’ll definitely check it out

I’m so happy you’re on day 28, this very encouraging.

Hi, Phillip-great question. I am currently reading Russell Brand’s book, Recovery. Alcohol has been my vice and books by Annie Grace have helped. I have watched a handful of I interviews with Gabor Mate ( spelling )? Dr. Mate has written In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts. I have yet to read his books while plan to as I respect, appreciate his compassionate approach regarding addiction, trauma…Dr. Adi Jaffe I listen to when I need to be reminded to not allow shame to swallow me whole. I am beyond grateful for the numerous resources available. Different from when I first began my path towards sobriety around eight years ago. I have fracked up since then while heading towards two months this time around. Jenn suggested Karr’s memoir, Lit. Yes, Jenn. That was one of the first memoirs regarding addiction which I read. Good suggestions here, Phillip. Wishing you and everyone here well!

Phillip, hi! So glad to read, hear that you are well. Congratulations on outpatient. I have a stellar outpatient team locally whose staff suggested inpatient to me during the autumn of 2021. I called around and did not qualify for inpatient while I support so. I crossed my two month mark last week. I feel good. Please keep us posted. I am proud of us!!:+1:t5:
