Thoughts on dating normies.
I’ve tried. I always explain my past and that I attend AA. Usually they appreciate the honesty but when push comes to shove, they don’t want to make any accommodations.
I met a woman online, seemed like a good fit, until I find out she spends most of her time out seeing bands at bars. Before we even met I told her I didn’t think it was a good fit, she insisted it wouldn’t be a problem. We started seeing each other and it wasn’t long until she was expecting me to hang out at bars with her
, I don’t know W.T.f. to do with that so I broke it off.
Like you, I’m not a young man. I didn’t think the drinking issue would be so big at this age, but it is.
I keep trying though. Good luck, it’s not easy.
Tried dating one and it went horribly wrong; told me she didn’t drink, but randomly went to an event where she was drinking, and it just made me nauseous. Now I only date women who don’t drink at all; slow to start, but you are worth it in the end.
Yeah thanks guys.... It seems like more of an issue today at least for a different reason seems like the woman my age glorify thier alcoholic appitite. I just wasn't sure what to do. I guess try and meet some one at a meeting with some time under her belt.
I’ve been sober 3.5 years+. I’ve dated two “normies” that both had stopped completely when we became exclusive or just a few drinks per month when hanging after work with a friend. Hasn’t been an issue on my end, I just made it clear on what my preference was. Most have wanted someone that drank less or have wanted to drink less or not at all.
I dated one then got married a year later and now we've been married for going on 9 years. She's been through the ringer with me too, several relapses after long multiple years of sobriety, going to prison for 3 years right after buying a house together. I got really lucky man. She is amazing and a solid rock. She has some solid boundaries now and I'm so grateful she has given me many chances but I am pretty sure that this is my last one. I can't mess it up again. But yes, it is possible. She never really drank a lot but she even quit having a glass of wine at a fancy dinner etc, not just out of respect but also because she realized she doesn't "need" it.
I can’t do it. Tried and it didn’t work. I ended up relapsing.
Relapsing oh OK. I just dred that alcohol smell on their breath after a nice night... Maybe I'm being to judgy. Or picky.
You are just being smart and safe. I know it’s lonely AF but it’s not worth losing the gains you’ve made.
Yeah i gotta tell myself that every day. I'm doing 90 in 90 right now it helps a bit
