Any LA county meeting recommendations?

I have tried 15-20 meeting so far in LA county. I live in Long Beach - but I’m willing to drive. I feel like I just keep stumbling into the wrong meetings.

I’ve tried different locations, different days, different times. I keep running into groups that are pretty much court ordered and people are not happy to be there. AA or NA - I’m not looking for anything in particular, just some positive folks trying to stay sober.

No meetings is wrong. Aa. Org they have all ways had court ordered .makes use remember when.aa🐪

I feel your pain. I once read that you should go to at least 6 different meetings before you settle on one. Looks like you checked that box. I bailed on the last SMART group I was in because of the court ordered crowd. I’m currently seeing an addiction counselor and have great conversations with close friend who is also getting sober. My therapist says my current approach is perfectly fine and group therapy can be just two people if it is working.

AA is definitely not for me.

You’re right! I went to another meeting today, it was good. I’m just used to a different crowd. (San Diego) LA meeting have just seemed so cold, but you are right - they are all good.

There's also zoom meetings to go to..I go to Lancaster.org zoom meetings and I'm from Connecticut. You can also Google zoom meetings in the area that will help you find one. Best of luck and keep staying strong.

Venice Beach has a couple meetings, my homie Leonard runs them and he's a good guy.

The people still have their own personalities. Get to know one person from the group who sponsors and you might be able to get to know others. Grab their phone list and find someone right away.

I don’t know the answer to the court ordered folks. I wish I could say I’ve seen successes but I haven’t. Every time as soon as the have enough meetings you never see them again. Often they are not adding much to the meeting either. Thankfully I live in a small town and we get few of those. But don’t feel like it’s just you, many of us feel the same. As much as I appreciate AA, the state forcing people to go (mostly because it’s free) isn’t the answer for them or us.
