Ultimately it's distraction. Replace what your substance did with something else. Keep yourself busy and active and healthy. Know that it is a temporary thing and seek the support of others

Everything David said plus you can look for a substitute for what you crave. It could be seltzer water or gum. I used to know a lady who was in recovery from Crack that ate corn starch. Anything that takes your mind off of the destruction is good.
