Anybody else wake up some mornings and just feel…the weight

Anybody else wake up some mornings and just feel…the weight of it all? I know it’ll get better, but it’s heavy.

Try another attitude: wake up happy and proud because you stayed sober last night. I rather feel weightless in the morning without the heavy hangovers

So…just be happy? Thanks, I’ll get right on that.

Yes, James. Every day I wake up with a knot of doubt and future uncertainty in my stomach. But I get up, ask God to be with me today, put one foot in front of the other (even when I'd rather turn and run), and, by noon, that knot is gone. I have a history of relapse in which I lose everything every single time and then I have to start from the bottom again. Detox... Get a new job... find a new residence... Deal with spent finances... Tell others... It is very unpleasant. But we have this little thing called "hope." I'm not letting go of it. Hang in there buddy.

You have to let go of that weight, whatever it is thats holding you back from understanding the pain and moving on from it

Yes, happiness is a decision, not a destination. It really is that simple!

I think he is just saying sometimes it’s heavy… we ALL can understand this, come on.

Indeed. It where would we be without the “Just Be Happy” Police?:roll_eyes::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

:joy: yeah… I think sometimes people need to remember that recovering addicts need to be ok with things being “just ok” or even “shitty” at times. Things pass. Impermanence and transience, ya know?

My biggest goal/challenge lately is sitting with myself and just letting things be what they are at the moment. Knowing I am not my thoughts and feelings. :purple_heart:

That’s the hardest part for me by faaaaaar. I’m either drowning in the past or obsessing about the future…or lack thereof. Focusing on “now” is…hard.

Thanks! I’m not much for the “Higher Power” concept, but I get what you’re saying.

Every day, brother. Prayer and meditation first thing in the morning helps me find another way to see everything. Thanks for bringing this up.

I used to feel that way early in my sobriety. After I let all the garbage go, and made a honest effort I started to feel good in the morning. Start by making your bed every day of you don’t. I don’t know what it is but when I started doing that, I just started to feel better. Weird I know. Then I started waking up an hour earlier and making coffee and just sitting in the quiet and reflecting. Start with the little things. Keep your head up man. It gets easier and better.

All day long. I’m right there with you. Funny, just before I picked up my phone and opened the app to this post I’d had a thought that maybe I should seek out “happy” people to spend some time with/study. Try to uncover what gives them those glimmers of hope, joy, peace, love, fun…
I try it alllll and positive emotions just haven’t really come yet. I’m sober 19 months though because I don’t allow my lack of them to define my days. Even when hope escapes me I don’t succumb to the wealth of negative emotions that could take over. For me it’s all about blind faith in the experiences of those who’ve gone before me. Sorry for the long post!

No need to apologize…at all. I appreciate hearing what you have to say. I’m 7 months in…so still new. I haven’t had any real desire to drink yet…not anything that lasted longer than a second. And I didn’t today. It’s just…this can really drown you sometimes.

Indeed you do. Thanks.
