Anyone been through this?

Wondering if anybody has ever reconnected with a friend or someone they had to ‘cut out’ in order to get sober. After a few years my buddy wants to reconnect and I don’t really know what to do. I’m comfortable enough in my sobriety to be at a bar but I don’t know if seeing someone who still drinks like I used to is a good idea.

Hey Derek…. I say go with your gut feeling.

Your gut will never lie to you that’s real truth

I’m going to say to you not to do it but only if he wanted you drink before and didn’t understand why you’re sober now. Does he understand and respect your sobriety? I had to get rid of a friend who was a complete a**hole about my sobriety. He wanted me to drink with him… when I told him I’m going to rehab soon he said “You’ll just be back drinking anyway, what’s to point?” And has said this multiple times. What a shite. It really depends on your friend….

I think because my friend also has a drinking problem but doesn’t want to admit it I will never be able to be around him again…. He wants to take me down with him, seriously. That’s totally the gut feeling I get. So he doesn’t feel so bad. (OH - btw I tried getting together with him last time I went to rehab) He got me these earrings that were whiskey bottles as a “joke” and said here’s a beer! Well…….

Jesus sounds like a good situation to avoid. Thanks for the insight! Do you still have those earrings? Lol

I agree with Janelle but if your spiritual condition is in a good place and he respects your sobriety then it might be ok. I would definitely not meet up at a bar though.
