Anyone else dealing with anxiety they never thought they had but since quitting drinking have it out of nowhere for no particular reason?
Yep, totally. I self medicated for 30 years and when I stopped a lot of issues became obvious. Anxiety and insomnia the biggest. All I can recommend is staying busy, exercise, long walks, go to meetings and if you need to go see a doctor. Be honest with them, mine was very impressed by my honesty and I took some meds for about 6 months until I leveled out some, but it’s still an issue. Unfortunately one of my addictions was benzos which are anti anxiety drugs and I can no longer take them. Good luck. I’ve found the meetings help my anxiety a lot.
Oh heck yes! I had no idea that I had anxiety. The first few days I stopped drinking/using I was insane. It gets better with time. I thought I was a very mellow guy. Turns out I’m not lol. I had some serious digestive issues back in 2019 that no doctors could figure out. Looking back now, I know it was just stress. Many recovering alcoholics/addicts deal with this. We all medicated ourselves to numb all of these feelings. Hang in there. It’s vital to our recovery that we learn to feel our feelings and not drink
Some of that can be attributed to the healing process your brain is going through. Some of it is because when we get sober, we are giving up a coping tool. Check out Post Acute Withdrawal, it details the symptoms.
