After getting sober caffeine became my new “vice.” Now that I no longer use alcohol to get through social interactions, I started to feel I couldn’t get through them unless I was hyped up on caffeine. But it just worsens the anxiety and makes me feel shaky and jittery so I’ve been trying to quit that totally too. Taking away all “crutches” from myself. Just wondering if anyone else is trying the same?
I didn't raise my coffee intake. I may drink 4 cups a day. A friend cut his out. He said it took a couple of days to get over it. Caffeine is a stimulant and can give you your symptoms
15 years no coffee
Alcohol ruined my stomach to the point I couldn’t handle coffee. I quit that in 2013 so that I could keep drinking.
When I quit drinking the first time in 2019 I resumed coffee and I’m so glad to be able to drink it again. For me it feels like progress.
ugh, jo, I totally feel your post. I do enjoy caffeine, but find myself over indulging without realizing until I start to get panicky. I have done caffeine cleanses before but the withdrawal was terrible. I need to have some freedom in things I can drink since it’s no longer alcohol. however, it’s finding the middle path that’s the hardest, moderation is not my best trait LOL
No way lol
But I heard some people are real serious about doing both.
I quit caffeine early on in sobriety. I do once in awhile have some but I have tea or matcha tea drink.
I realized that caffeine was causing me sleep issues.. I have plenty of energy now that I eat healthier that I don’t need caffeine. Stimulants are just not needed for me…
I was drinking a lot of energy drinks while I was drinking and using. It was time to change everything about me in sobriety. A complete overhauling.
You can do it. Put you mind into making that change within. Meditation can help. Getting out into nature..
I find myself craving sugar. The craving is starting to get better.
Yes, sugar is ultimately the worst drug to stop! I was able to get 30 days no added sugar to my diet. That was toughest thing I did. Harder then quitting alcohol
Haha you’re so right about the moderation! I always think I need more caffeine until I’m shaking and feel like I’m on the verge of panic, kinda like how I always “needed” more alcohol even when I was already blacked out acting ridiculous
Thanks! I’ve been gradually cutting down and today is day 4 of not having any at all so I’m going to try to give it up totally! No more jitters or palpitations
lmaoooo SAME THOUGH 🥲 glad we can relate
