It's incredibly hard when you're surrounded by booze and have to work with the general public
It was incredibly hard at first but over time it got easier. My life was completely unmanageable & I never wanted to experience those hardships again. My self worth, children & sobriety became my priority…not alcohol. Surround yourself with like minded individuals & positivity. You can do this!!!

Yes and yes. Well yes bartender, been dry for almost two years now. If you need someone who knows what you are going through I can definitely commiserate. I’m not bartending but still spending a lot of time in breweries and at events. To me it’s amusing. I just get upset at the lack of choices. It’s usually alcohol or soda.
That's amazing, definitely gives me hope!
Morning Me has SO much resolve to not drink.. the Night Me feels like a completely different person and gives in then it's 4 or 5 drinks by the end of the night.
I live in a town with a huge drinking culture. A brewery or tasting room around every corner and beer fests every other week. I need to get it out of my head that drinking is the only way to be social or to have fun. I'm much happier when I resist. But the subconscious is a b@stard..
I know exactly how you feel. I remember thinking that everything is fine & I can have one drink because of the “fun environment” but I know that will never be the case. If you ever need support or just an ear to vent to please reach out. I can send a message with my constant information.
I bartended for 3 years. Small town dive. Only place that served booze after 10. I quit for two reasons - hated the hours (up till 3-4 am) once I got clean and I didn’t want to be around people I used to drink/use with. Being around booze was never a trigger for me. I miss the job and the money. It was fun and I would do it again under different circumstances. But everybody’s recovery is different. Do what’s best for you and the rest will take care of itself.
Great question!!
I’m a server and it’s Been so hard to quit drinking. The free shifties after work and then going to the bars with coworkers after
this past weekend was the first time in 9 months I didn’t drink after work. I understand how difficult it is trying to be sober and be in the industry
Got sober working around alcohol. Many have as can you
Best bartenders I ever had were sober. They also 86’d me from my last “regular” spot.
I’m a bartender in Hollywood. I’ve been sober for 5 years now. It was tricky in the beginning but it’s doable & it’s def gotten easier for me the longer I’ve been dry. Good luck!
I didn't like working at a bar even when I was drinking
Been a bartender for over ten years, current bar manager at my place now and over six months sober! It was definitely challenging at the beginning because it is so engrained into our “decompression” after work to let off steam with coworkers after a long night, but now I find that relaxing and home and feeling great the next day is FAR more enjoyable. I can even grab a “drink” after work once in a while and still enjoy the camaraderie!
My first sponsor was a restaurant manager he was in and out of detox a few times a month. He got a job doing something different it was hard at first money wise but he stayed sober he is a very successful contractor and money is not a problem. He has been sober for over 30 years. Put yourself and your recovery first. It’s tough serving and not use. I wish you the very best! God bless you
