Anyone else in the health and wellness industry? If so,

Anyone else in the health and wellness industry? If so, what is your profession? Do you feel an extra layer of condemnation like, “you should know better”? I myself am a recovering opiate addict and am also a nutritionist with a Bachelors degree. People are SO surprised and confused how I could of possibly gotten addicted. But the fact is it can happen to anyone… It feels frustrating when addicts are put in a box.

Congrats on your recovery! We know addiction doesn’t discriminate. You are blessed to work in a field where you may have the opportunity to use your gift of recovery to help others

I work as ain RN. I had that guilt and shame a long time ago. I now know that this is a disease I didn't ask for but I am grateful for the sober community. Try to see if you can find recovery mtgs for healthcare folks. It really reinforces the fact that this disease does not discriminate. Sharing our stories helps people in healthcare who are going thru the shame and guilt of we should have kn own better. It doesn't work like that.

Addiction does not discriminate; it affects the young, the old, the rich and the poor, men and women alike.
