Like sponsoring someone or being sponsored by someone? What do you want to know?
Like sponsoring someone. I have been struggling to find a relatable sponsor
Mike, where have you looked? Have you been going to a lot of meetings?
I don’t know if you are NA or AA, and meeting wise I don’t think it matters. We all work the same steps. But I think it matters when we get sponsors. Some may disagree (totally not in love with my stance). I just know that I would have a hard time sponsoring a drug addict. Not because of any judgment, but because I can’t relate all of my experiences or relate to all of theirs. That being said there seems to be less NA options from a meeting volume especially in small towns. But allways lots of NA people at AA. My gosh I’m just a contradiction this morning. lol What I’m saying is just pound the meetings and don’t be afraid to ask someone who inspires you or seems like a good fit. Almost anyone with some time will be willing. Make sure they at least have a year or two and have worked the steps. You just gotta get out and shop. This is all just my opinion and only intended to help. Mine is not a superior opinion. It’s just mine.

Yes I routinely go to meetings and have had pseudo sponsors but haven’t found one that suits me

I have a sponsor and many men with years of sobriety that I can call when I need guidance. Just look for someone who has the recovery you are looking for and no one gets offended if you try one and it doesn’t work out and there is someone else that you seem to click with better

I didn't know my sponsor at all when I first met him. I knew his sponsee and wanted the peace he had. Now we're friends beyond the program. It was suggested to me to find someone that has want I want and that was it.

Awesome question! I have had 5 sponsors and have been sob er over 7 years. I wouldn't want to be sober without one because I tried that the first time and in ruff times I was alone with a madman! Its nice to have someone that knows me inside and out so I can check my thinking out and stay accountable to somebody. Usually they help you get through the steps, they are supposed to be a closed mouthed trusted friend that will be honest with you.
