Anyone here get sober without AA? I have been in it since March and have basically come to believe it is the only option if I want a happy life. Would like to know of other options.
I was able to maintain my sobriety for 7 months without AA. I see a therapist, but my situation may be different... i drank to cope with my past/unhappiness. Alcohol was just a vice to mask my depression and alleviate the anxiety- which just made things worse. I get support from friends and family...I know there are other options available that others have mentioned on here
I read “alcohol lied to Me” 150000 times. I will not be going to AA bc i genuinely do not want to drink.
There are a lot of other options: Recovery Dharma, SMART Recovery come to mind immediately but there are others. Send me a message if you want to chat! I work at an addiction treatment facility and have a lot of resources.
I started with some AA, but after a few months it hasn't seemed very necessary. Religion/church kind of covers all kinds of vices, so I've maintained sobriety primarily with that.
Dry or sober?
I was dry for 3 years. I was miserable. Wasn't until I changed the way I interact with the world - 15 years later and a lot of pain later, that I became happy and free. AA gave me that.
I have 9 months sober in AA. I love the program because it’s more for our alcoholic thinking. I’m sticking with it because it’s working and also I have grown in so many other ways. Not to mention the amazing amount of support I have found in the rooms.
