Some people have the strength of will… most don’t. I tried to do it on my own and it never worked well. The accountability and fellowship is what I needed. Good luck on the journey my man!

I went in the hospital for 2 months - no booze there. When I got out I was done with it. Haven’t been to a group, but I’m not tempted to drink. I do have a therapist.

Yup. Year and change sober and getting stronger by the day. Meetings really aren't my bag.

I did when I got sober the first time around years back. I got off everything by myself with no rehab, no groups

I go to meetings to see my friends. I’m happy now. I’m not too good to have friends and desire to improve myself. Oh yeah no drugs or booze for 3 years.

I don’t go to groups regularly, but I pop into one from time to time. Haven’t done the steps yet or anything like that.
What has been my sweet spot is: talking to my therapist, listening to sobriety podcasts, and immersing myself in quit lit- especially if I feel like my sobriety needs some strengthening. And I chat with people on Loosid which helps a lot.
Try everything and keep the things that work for you :metal:t3:

I always consider going to a group but never do.. everyone recommends it to me.. I wouldn’t know what to say or do at one.

Yes, I'm one. But I did create a recovery group in my home town for people who need it. Truth is you have to WANT to be so er to do it.

If you go to a open meeting.you can Take some one with you .go to one or two a week .and up your meetings.if meetings where so bad no one would go.we would not be here.it has changed people lives and mine .1986.aa

Let me tell you this. I have tried to do recovery many times on my own and have made it for awhile. But without a good support group or people to encourage you to stay clean it impossible. It's more than groups and meetings. It's the people you surround yourself with that matter most. Hope that helped and if you ever need someone to talk, vent, or even listen. Hit me up I gotcha back my man.

Not everyone subscribes to the ‘dry drunk’ concept. This is from AA. Just fyi.

I go to meetings because when I came I had no one

Therapy and Jesus do it for me

I realize that this sounds naive, but my Dad was an alcoholic turned Drug and Alcohol counselor. I have had lots of education from him. The looks on my daughter's faces, and my oldest refusing to talk to me for almost 3 years was painful enough to make me walk through fire before I will ever take another narcotic. I am a completely different person now than I was as an opioid addict. I have been looking for a therapist, my problem is insurance. Like many of us, I am sure. I come to this site often for support and to help others if I can.

My high power is God. My faith and trust in God have become a daily source of strength for me.

I had 6 years sober in the early 90's and at the time had done a lot of mertings. I have spent decades in therapy becoming more self aware and bettering myself. I am 11 months sober and I enjoy sober activities and the occasional meeting for the social aspect. I don't fully subscribe to the notion that I am terribly flawed and need a program to follow.
