Anyone using a program through Medicaid that isn’t faith-based or AA? I’ve never been religious or spiritual, so that’s just flat out not going to work for me, but faith/spirituality-based programs are the only thing social and behavioral healthcare workers in my area seem to even know about. They’re great for the people they work for, absolutely no hate towards anyone’s beliefs and I’m well aware religion is extremely helpful to many people in leading better and happier lives, but I can’t be helped by a belief system I don’t subscribe to. I need something preferably based in behavioral science that utilizes cbt or dbt to replace unhealthy coping mechanisms. And something I can access through telehealth, I’d rather not risk exposing my kid to the Delta variant. TIA
Hi Ryan, my suggestion is to find a therapist who specializes in recovery. Alternatively, if you want non-religious meetings She Recovers and The Luckiest Club are options. I haven’t done a lot of research into the Women for Recovery program, but that might also be an option, they have meetings and steps. I am not aware of any complete/support programs that aren’t some kind of faith based. But if you’re open to meditation Dharma Recovery is good. When I got sober I kind of created my own program, and take what I can from other programs but also created something that was doable for/jived with me.
Thank you so much, I’m going to look into those programs right away. Meditation has been suggested by past therapists, so I’d be open to it. But it very much helps to know someone else was able to make it by putting together what worked for them, that was sort of the approach I was leaning towards. It’s hard to find a good trauma informed therapist in my area on my insurance, so I definitely need some form of support while I look. I really appreciate your suggestions.
Yea! I have lots of other suggestions if you need some further guidance or support!
Do you mind if I add you on here? I promise not to overload you with questions, it’ll just help to know I can ask if I need to
AA isn’t religious. I’m not religious. 2.5 years clean
Smart recovery is an option. It is online too
I differentiated between faith-based and AA because I have issues with AA that don’t involve religion. I’m really not trying to knock anything that has worked for anyone else, but it’s not what I’m looking for. Thank you for reaching out regardless, and congratulations on your sobriety
I have a friend that likes dharma it’s meditation based.
Thank you! I’ll look that one up too
Thank you! I think that one’s going to be first on my search once I get the kiddo down for a nap
I go to aa and I am not religious. I am spiritual and have issues with organized religion
SMART Recovery is a cbt based recovery program which is having great success for many people who struggled with the power greater than one’s self.
Thank you! Adding it to the list
Of course not! I would be happy to help.
