Approaching birthday anxiety alert. Oof. So when I got sober last month, I was still really not totally sure that I was in it for the long haul. I knew I should be, but I wasn’t all in, if I’m honest with myself. I decided that my goal would be to stay sober until my birthday, & then reassess. A lot has definitely gone down in the last 37 days (yeah, I said it.
) & I’m more secure in my decision to stay sober. I know that I am an alcoholic, & I need to keep taking the steps to adjust to a completely new lifestyle. That being said, those thoughts of self sabotage are still there. The thought of “oh, I’ve stayed sober this long, so I can try it in moderation.” Which I’ve obviously tried, and moderation is not possible. This will also be my first birthday spent sober since I started drinking over ten years ago. I guess it’s just good to type this out, & get it off my chest. I’ll definitely need to stay focused these next four days (my birthday is on the 22nd) & try to remind myself of all the progress I’ve made.
Thank you, Kristin! I’m a binge drinker as well, I’ve never been able to have just one.
On March 3rd of this month I had your same idea about my birthday on March 1st. I went out and drank and on my walk home was hit and run. Broke my back in 5 places, fractured my foot, collapsed and punctured my lungs. By the grace of God I have no nerve damage and am looking forward to a full recovery in 6 months. The doctor told me my case NEVER happens. Take it from someone who took their life for granted…. Stay sober. Because just going home drunk after drinking is not promised.
I’m glad that you’re on your way to healing, that’s incredibly scary.
I’m feeling pretty confident in my ability to get through these next few days. It just always helps to share.
My confidence and my money is on you sis!!! Operation sober Bday is in the bag!! Let’s go!!

Definitely getting to the point where I’m thinking “oh, I can just have one” then reminding myself how many times that 1 turned into 10. Happy early birthday! Mine is in May and I’m already kind of dreading it because I know I’ll want think about drinking. But it’ll be so grand to wake up the day after your birthday with no hangover and sunshine warm sober-ness.
I will be praying for you friend. We can do this:) ii
