Are there any mainstream alternatives to AA?
Smart Recovery
Zoom meetings
Group therapy sessions
Making your own path, I don't do any meetings.
There's also,
LifeRing
All I can share is I tried everything and until I was willing to do AA and do the work nothing changed and I continued to drink. I even had nearly 5 years once and life got very good until some unexpected events happened and I relapsed for over 3 years making a really big mess. So I went to rehab and did the work and I continue to do the work. Just my story. 9/17/14 Thanks to aa
Try different meetings! That's why there are lots of them. I have found recovery in Narcotics Anonymous. Thank-you.
SMART Recovery. I’m a facilitator & the Regional Coordinator for North Dakota. I love the program. Go to smartrecovery dot org, there is all kinds of info & online meetings. Shoot me a message if you have questions.
I do both SMART and AA, depends on what I am needing. I like aspects of both, I’m enjoying SMART more and more as I progress in my sobriety.
I go to NA sometimes, great meetings with a little different “vibe” than AA. There’s always something we can learn at any meeting!
The Satanic Temple Sober Faction. Check it out. Not at all what you might think, but a solid program, with zoom meetings
Exactly. An unofficial rule of thumb is to make six meetings of any given fellowship before making a decision. Try being a "recovery tourist." As long as you don't get loaded it'll be fine. Many times it comes down to the people. Look for where people seem happy. Be candid about your reservations. For instance, if the word "God" scares you, then try not to overthink it. Nobody has ever asked me whether I believe in God or not in 19 years. It's not their business ; it's personal and private. Sometimes it's the power of the group for me. Sometimes it's spiritual principles. Other times it's the power that keeps me clean. It's loving, caring and greater than myself. That's all. Good hunting!
Anything that works for ya , power in numbers
Where is everyone finding AA and NA meetings
Download the “meeting guide” app and “in the rooms” app
My own path, no meetings. God and Google, basically.
Medium app!
An All Night Place meets at 10pm PST every night- it’s secular. They are also hosting meetings in the morning.
Why?
Why don’t you do meetings? Sober 7 yrs. What’s keeps you?
Keeps me sober, my friend and support structure. I don't believe in the consistent reminder of being an alcoholic or addict.
I do believe in rehab though, without it I wouldn't be here. Ours was open and tailored around AA, NA, Lifering, meditation, and mindfulness.
After an indepth plan created early after rehab with my psychiatrist he too saw why a structured program wasn't for me. If it works for you, I'll support you. It's just not for me and not the only way to stay clean and sober.
I'm on this site more so to help others. I also released a book a few years back about situational sobriety.
What’s the name of this book Mo?
