Attitude and gratitude

This is so very true. When I have a bad or negative attitude my direction has been shifted ever so slightly. That subtle shift has huge impact on my life as a whole.

First thing I’ve noticed is my gut health is not right. Next thing that happens is I’m going round and round in my head. Justifying why I’m angry or upset or in a negative mood. The next thing I noticed is in my work, I’m not even focused on the task at hand. Mistakes are being made. The lack of interest becomes greater and greater. Which in turn keeps this vicious cycle going round and round gaining intensity. This is where the pivotal moment between fight or flight response system is turned on. If no one around me says or does something to throw that switch I can make it through the day. However when that action from outside sources happens my frontal cortex shuts off and I’m no longer in control of my tongue, arms, feet or hands. This has happened to me a handful of times in sobriety. It happened more then I remember in my active addiction. I also would drunk those negative emotions away or stuff them down even further. That’s when things would get ugly at a later date when all those emotions would surface.
Learning about these triggers I’m able to live a healthy lifestyle. I’m slowly becoming more conscious about where my mind is throughout the day. It’s this self awareness that allows me to have a positive attitude and recognize when I’m going in the wrong direction.
