Back to day one after 19 days straight of sobriety. Was by a liquor store in my old neighborhood and couldn't fight the craving to just "have some wine to relax." Skipped cooking dinner, drank myself to sleep, and woke up 3 am feeling pretty disappointed in myself. At least I have a reminder of why I started this journey to sobriety in the first place. Alcohol is not my friend and I need to accept that fact sooner than later.
Shali, that reminder is powerful, and is a hard one. But you’re up, and doing it again. Please try to let the disappointment go. You’re human doing battle with an addictive poison. It’s all good. You already know you can do it. And you will. One moment at a time. You got this.
Shali, don’t give up. One day at time. You got this!
Thank you Andrea. I needed to read your kind comment. I will keep pushing on.
Thank you Thomas, yes, one day at a time, step by step, I will get there.
Most of us have many “Day 1’s”! Don’t beat yourself up. I believe each time we learn something about ourselves and our triggers and it makes us stronger. We also put new tools in the toolbox as we go on this journey. It sounds kinda silly, but seriously one time I added prayer, the next time meditation, the next time setting more boundaries and self care, change of routine, etc. It’s hard to change everything all at once. What’s important is you keep going and have faith in the process. Get plugged in, keep coming back
Thank you Abbey, good point. I need to build more of a support system outside of my therapist.
Thanks Vicki! I love the tools you shared and will keep them in mind going forward!
In the beginning.I went to meetings every day for a year.and work .and no car.
