Been beating myself up bad this week because I drank over the weekend. My first niece was born, my husband got a new job and I got accepted into a graduate program so there was so much to celebrate I couldn’t resist a cheers. And then probably about 20 more after that. I disappointed in myself and disgusted. I can’t understand why when all these good things happen I can’t help but to self sabotage and drink thinking I’m celebrating. I had 34 days clear and here I am again starting over knowing that if I just tried harder I could’ve held out longer.
We will always find the “excuse” to drink. Don’t beat yourself up. Relapse happens. Being alcoholic is tough when feel good celebration is happening… especially when still in early sobriety. Think of it as a learning experience, and something you know doesn’t work. Get back in the saddle. You can get through it!
