Been thinking about what my addiction has turned to since

I’m seven months clean and I’m stuck thinking about what my addiction has turned into since meth… maybe I feel like nothing is ever enough anymore. The three hours at the gym doesn’t feel sufficient. Sex isn’t even enough. Idk. Feel kind of lost. Any one relate?

I do. I had the same feelings during my struggle, and when I’d try unsuccessfully to get sober. Once I was able to accept God’s (or Whoever your higher power is) forgiveness, then I was able to accept my past, and then was able to forgive myself so that I could move ahead and truly embrace my sobriety. It also gave me a sense of compassion for others who are struggling. It sounds like you haven’t forgiven yourself. If you haven’t done that, moving ahead will be nearly impossible. Sometimes, we judge ourselves far too harshly.

Thanks for your reply Brad. Your response makes total sense considering how I’ve been sitting on my fourth step now for 2 months. I can’t even understand why I don’t just get it over with. It’s totally internal -must be… also I’m beginning to feel that the damage I’ve done to myself is too much for me to forgive. I know my family forgives me but I’m still so hurt and upset. Thank thank thank you for helping me realize that I’m missing that connection with God. I appreciate you. :yellow_heart:

23 days, 6 mos once) Well there’s a lot of misery in the world, step outside yourself and take it on. I like Marcus Aurelius: Live in a way that you can have at least your own respect, anything else is worthless.

Good morning Tiffany, I can totally understand your pain. In the beginning of my sobriety nothing was fun. That feeling of nothing is enough, well that’s our disease. For me I have a thinking problem. I’m always thinking bad thoughts or negative thoughts about myself. I was addicted to meth as well. Ultimately it was alcohol that started everything negative in my life. AA has changed everything about me. I’m 623 days clean and sober today. I’m stuck on my fourth step as well. I’ve been reading the AA big book. I try my best to help others. I’ve found God. God is what I bring to every situation. I’ve put sex on the back burner for now as I’m focused on my business and my self care. Meditation and exercise with eating healthier has helped me a lot mentally. One of my biggest changes was the way I talk to me self. Positive thoughts and reinforcements play a huge role in how my body and mind feel. If a negative thought arise I quickly tell me self that’s not true. Then let it go. This takes practice.
Congrats on 7 months clean! Keep up the good work. Remember easy does it. Give yourself a break. You’re doing well!

GM Kevin Curry,
congratulations on 623! Thank you for your reply. I appreciate you for sharing your wisdom with me. I am definitely one who has negative thoughts I’m working on reprogramming myself I’m reading “the untethered soul” - if you like to read it’s an easy great read. Also I’m going to adopt your “pause. that’s not true” and use it when my internal dialogue becomes negative. It’s nice to be supported… Thank you, wish you the best! :yellow_heart:

Congrats!! Things do get better, we do get “stuck” and fall back into old habits/thinking.
One thing I’ve learned, is no matter what I do to better myself, such as working out, reading, etc., I tend to take it too far. I obviously have an addictive personality, so anything I try, I seem to take it to the extreme.
Even being a recovering alcoholic for 5,762 days.
I am a Christian, yet still struggle with “Let go let God” It’s human nature.
Forgive yourself!! Sounds easy, but it’s not, but oh so important!!

Getting used to being content is really hard for addicts. It's something we aren't used to. Sounds like finding balance is going to be a challenge but seek happiness first.

Yeah…stop subconsciously comparing a normal life with the electrochemically saturated life you’re living with dope…the electrochemical reaction from the gym WILL NOT compare to the influx that happens with meth…it’s all a part of the lie drugs tell you.
