Being Drunk Is Expensive

There’s a bunch of concerts coming up that I want to go to but can’t justify the spending for right now. And it’s like… maybe if I wasn’t spending $100+/week on booze all summer, I could easily go to all of them. Weird thing is at the time I thought I was saving money by not going out. It didn’t even seem like I was spending much… like $20-30 a day but that adds up over time. Now it’s literally the opposite. I can’t go out sober now because I recklessly spent a stupid amount of money drinking at home for 3 months.

Maybe staying home and avoiding triggers is best right now though.

If you think AA meetings are a comparable alternative to live entertainment, you might be a little bit brainwashed.

You originally told me to getting into a recovery program is better than going to shows, but now you’re saying you do both. Not sure what kind of point you’re trying to make.

Sounds like you were just looking for an excuse to tell somebody here to get in a recovery program.

I was spending 17k a year

Where does that money go now?

True! If you think avoiding triggers is what you need then it’s for the best! I know what you mean. I was recklessly spending money on alcohol and now I have none and it’s taking me longer to get back on track than I’d like. It’s such an uncomfortable feeling. But I’m just trying to trust the process I guess. Wishing you well!
