Biggest Challenge

What was/is the biggest challenge for you in recovery? How did you/do you plan to conquer it?

Convincing myself I couldn’t control it. Now I’m a beast about my sobriety. I tackle it with the same veracity I did my drinking.

The same as Fiddy.

social anxiety. working on being comfortable in my own skin. Sounds funny, but staying in shape and eating right keep my brain firing on all cylinders. Also-practice good sleep habits

Finding my voice and setting healthy boundaries. Choosing myself and the wellbeing of myself and my family over the needs/wants of others. I was raised to always put others before myself, so now, No matter how much I logically know that choosing myself and having a voice is the right thing, innately it feels wrong. It's the single most difficult thing I have encountered on this path to recovery and it is also the #1 contributing factor for the turmoil and struggle in my current situation

Having found someone, falling in love then having it fall apart. It was a fucking rollercoaster

I agree, removing the social lubricant made it hard to be around people, now I just do it in small doses.

Recognizing boundaries. Respecting boundaries. Setting boundaries. Enforcing boundaries.

I’m like a 48 year old newborn baby in this regard.

My biggest challenge is getting out my shell. I'm naturally introverted. In sobriety I need others to survive. It's hard for me to open up because that's not who I am. I go to meetings online because of COVID-19. I am not sure what else to do to get me out of my shell. I want to stay sober and I want to connect with other sober people. I just don't know how.

Where do I begin? I don’t even know if it’s over.

I don’t know I love to drink

Same thing. I started drinking at a young age and that’s how I socialized. It became part of my personality. It takes work, gotta get out and try…but I agree, you’re almost a completely different person.

Convincing myself.
"Not everything is my fault.
I was a child I did nothing wrong, he was just a sick man.
I am not worthless. I deserve to live and be happy"

I try to stay positive and stay connected to sober support. I shout loudly at least 2 positive affirmations daily 1 self esteem focused 1 daily goal focused.

Stay Strong
Stay Sober

Biggest challenge? No f-ing up. I’m a habitual screw up. Lol. Staying sober is kind of inbred in my recovery. Been at it a long time. Problem is i get well after long periods of sobriety. Think I can be a normal earth person. My higher power always beats me up some to get right. Probably giving in to him was my biggest challenge of all time. Letting him rule and stop fighting him.

Anxiety. It's been insanely hard. Alcohol is the only thing that calms my anxiety so that makes it too easy to relapse. I am now doing daily meditation/yoga. I am taking my medications regularly and spending more time working on my spiritual journey. It's the only thing keeping me going. I am still having a hard time even putting gas in my car. One day at time. I am hoping it will get easier. Goodluck to you, I wish you the best. Stay strong :black_heart:

I have the same issue. Feel free to message me!

The only challenge I have is trying to show non addicts what I went through and how much work i had to do to get sober. I finally learned it’s not worth my time.
