Bittersweet Mother’s Day

…very grateful for my healthy kids. We live on a metaphorical island and I only draw down the most for kind and loving people.
It has not included my mother and stepmother who are both toxic narcissists. I’ve learned to create new “family” and focus on me, God, my recovery and those that truly love me.
Happy Mother’s Day to moms out there, especially those that might be struggling today. You’re not alone.

Recovery is about making good choices. Good choices aren’t always easy. It takes a lot of honesty, awareness, and strength to make these healthy boundary choices with our families and put ourselves first. Way too many times I sacrificed my mental health, as well as the mental health of my wife and kids, just to appease my family during holidays. It’s a blessing not to have to do this anymore. It’s far better to temporarily feel a little conflicted, than to put ourselves in bad situations. Stay strong and happy Mother’s Day

Thank you. I grieved the loss but focused on my kids!
