I like AA yoga, hiking and outdoors stuff. What do you love?
Maybe you need a creative outlet and a small group of friends

I avoid AA. I think it's outdated. But I do need a network of friends. Also I'm sick, so I don't have much strength or energy to be social.

What's wrong w embroidery and phone games  jk.... I understand, I get that feeling sometimes.... especially because the things I used to be doing were a lot more "exciting" so to speak. But today, there's not enough time in the day to catch up for lost time for me... I get my responsible stuff done, and began to look into all of the areas of interest that I've always had and just never did. I also spend a lot of time helping others, because I enjoy doing it, and it helps me just as much, if not more than it does the other people. You'll get into your rhythm eventually, just don't sit too long and get too bored, that's a very dangerous place to be for an addict. When newly sober that was my biggest issue, what the he** to do for fun? BC my favorite thing to do was to get high and run the streets and be immature, that was fun for me. What was I supposed to join a bowling league? I was not happy at the time and I had a long way to go. Nowadays, I actually do like bowling, and I do run the streets, just on my way home from other things like meetings at night, and I don't stop to talk about anything other than "how are you" and "no,". ..that's about it. It takes time, but you'll find your happiness.

@carmen396103 Please share with us as to why AA is outdated. I would really love to hear your answer.

For one, even though they say choose any higher power, that's not inclusive to atheists and every meeting they end with the Lord's prayer which is disclusive towards people of any other faith. I don't believe we are powerless, I believe we are full of power to achieve what we want. I think most the people there could use a real therapist instead of peer support and even Bill Watson encouraged shroims at the end for the program to be so anti-weed or shrooms.

@carmen396103 so how are you staying sober or are you dry.

What do you mean how? I wake up every day and I don't drink.

@carmen396103 are you working on any type of recovery program?

How about you mind your 12 steps? I have been to recovery programs my whole life, I would only be going to AA for the social aspect; which i may still do. I have to repeat relapse prevention to get a liver transplant

:rofl: good luck my friend. Ignorance is bliss. Any recovery program will work. The one I've and countless others have been working seems to do it. If you know of another way please share your thoughts.
I hope your liver issues get resolved.

I just said I've been to recovery programs my whole life so im not ignorant. Nor am I a "dry drunk". Again, you should get to 12-steppin cuz it looks like you have work to do.

Keep coming back my friend.

Boredom is very much my trigger also, and I can only clean so many windows and bathrooms!

Hi Carmen. Have you tried Smart Recovery? That’s really working for me. I do online woman’s meetings twice a week. AA is not for me either. Try reading up on it. I do tons of things to keep my mind occupied like meditation, journaling, cooking, cleaning, listening to the audios on this app, YouTube has tons of things to watch depending on your interests, movies and taking walks. Good luck to you. By the way….love the name Carmen…that’s my mom’s name :grinning:
