Boredom

I need tips to get through this boredom. Idk how many times I’ve contemplated just having “one beer” tonight and convincing myself “I could handle it.” Didn’t do it but this boredom.. ugh.

One thing someone told me in a meeting is that boredom is just peace we are just not use to it yet . We are use to the drama and the adrenaline rush!! I started using that everyday and thinking about it and it’s true it is peace when I thouht about it cus if the biggest worry I have that day is boredom then im doing something right !! Hopefully that helps !!

I get that 100% but I’m just not the type of person that can sit in front of the tv everyday, I have to be active doing something, both of my jobs are even physical. I need to figure out a hobby or a club or something

I am not normally bored but when I am struggling going for a brisk walk helps me focus and adjust my mindset. Try new things, yoga, meditation, online exercise videos, look for local workshops or community classes to learn about something new. Good luck.

Try looking for classes or events at the local library, community college, or park district.

For me I have a running list of things I want to do. I also have two Labradors that keep me active throughout the day. Working out is also a great way to kill some time. Idk. Everyone is different.

Try poker. I play a recurring game w a really cool woman who runs an organization for women called Poker Power. She’s rad. It’s rad. It can all be pretty low stakes but if you have concerns about gambling then maybe try Chess.com. Point being find a game or activity that simultaneously enhances practical skill sets. If you’re not a gamer perhaps look into MasterClasses - tons of different offerings to choose from. Singing, writing, cooking, photography, acting, branding (like starting a company, not BRANDING). . . like SO MUCH. I totally understand where you’re coming from. I go through it to. I just have to remind myself that I’m literally only asking myself to abstain from the one thing. What’s left w/out alcohol? The entire world. Best of luck:heart::muscle:

Exercise seems to help a lot when I'm getting anxious and the bored thoughts start to take control. Nothing super strenuous but just enough to get a little bit of that sweet dopamine to drop.

i feel exactly the same. i have to be doing something physical. but i also get tired of the physical stuff. lately whats been working out for me is scaling down on the intensity of whatever physical activity im doing. ive noticed that i can only watch tv after a good day of physical activity. wether its been a short and easy hike or a short run. i try and make it easy on myself when I get bored. i switch up the type of physical activity and try out new things. hope this helps.

relatable

I like to walk or just cleaning up around the house. The other is cooking and looking up new recipes to try. I also started baking and giving away the baked goods at a meeting.

Relatable. I usually listen to recovery podcasts; it keeps me focused and fills the space between my ears. It’s a start.

Anything to distract yourself, fill your time. Also, calling a sponsor or another alcoholic helps a lot

Also—congrats on almost 30 days!

You got this :muscle:t4:

Good advice…

Start reading. Stay physically active. Reach out to other sober people. Start a hobby that us constructive or therapeutic.

Hey! For me I center my days around meetings lately. Just got home from my second meeting today. My 8am meeting had like 40+ people and my 7:00pm meeting had 4 other people other than me. Idk I enjoy my meetings now and they keep me busy.

I think I saw some comment about taking a walk, weathers nice here so a bit of walking meditation is nice sometimes. Treat yourself to a sober outing, like a ballet performance or movie on the weekends.

Do all the things that you've never done when you were drinking and be good at every last one of them
