Bottom of the bottle

The bottom of the bottle,
Is where my worth comes from,
Making really bad decisions,
Waiting for the cops to come,
Jail is no big deal,
I've been there several times,
This is the way its supposed to be,
Because I never saw the signs,
I was blowing off my kids,
What a sorry excuse for a dad,
Every once ans a while I'd see them,
But they were always so sad,
Everyone I loved I hurt,
But they loved me anyway,
I think of how I ruined my life,
And drank every single day,
For all the damage that I did,
I can never be sorry enough,
I covered up all my misery,
And tried to act so tough,
Broken relationships broken hearts,
Just some of the damage that was done,
The bottom of the bottle,
Is where I'd always run.

Something I wrote a while back

You can’t change the past. It’s going to be a huge step forward for you the day you forgive yourself and focus on the present.

If you’re an alcoholic like me, 12 steps will free you and teach you an easier, softer way. Examining your past, and learning to make peace with it will really free you and enable you to live the life you want to live.

I was handcuffed to a liquor bottle for 25 years. Now I’m a free man. And never alone. It’s so beautiful.

True Craig! It was just a poem I wrote a while back early in recovery. Been free now for a little over 8 1/2 years

Congratulations Derick!!!! I feel you on every word that you said in that poem you wrote. I felt that way many years ago. But I’ve been free from alcohol for quite a few years and I feel great. Best thing I ever done for myself. And I do have different people in my life now people that actually care.
