Brand new here. NOT brand new to recovery. I’ve quit a thousand times.
Recovery isn't about quitting, quitting is easy. it's about staying quit. Good luck.
Absolutely. And thank you. I was being facetious a little. I went to my first inpatient treatment in 2001 to save a job. I’ve been to two more since and I was varying levels of serious through all of it. Jail stays. Busted relationships. Broken families. Probation and parole. Alcohol and drugs were a symptom for me, like they are for a lot of us. Plus, to be totally honest, I liked being high more than I loved anything else in my life. That’s an embarrassing admission but it was true for a long long time. I found out I didn’t really have a bottom. I’d always keep digging. I’ve got four months right now (we’ll, July 1st I will anyway) and I’m working it this time as if my life depends on it. Because it does.
I hope you keep at it man. Life is worth living. Nobody said it’d be easy, but it’s so much better sober. I wish I could say it’s never too late but with this disease it can be. So take care of yourself. I hope you’re hitting meetings!
You’re right, your life does really depend on it. When I think about all the close calls& things that could’ve happened I’m truly great full, never thought I’d ever say that! There’s a saying can’t recall exactly but it’s like BE SOBER OUTLOUD FOR EVERYONE SUFFERING IN SILENCE OR NEVER GOT THE CHANCE
Sounds like you're being honest with yourself which is a great start. I can relate, I fought it for decades too until I had no choice but to be honest with myself if I wanted to survive. Sometimes it takes that to take it seriously. Good luck man keep at it!
