Met this beautiful woman in recovery support for long term sobriety people, super sweet we went out and we'll it turns, not sober like at all and it gets worse from there. Bummed and disappointed but I didn't drink at least!
I had the same experience. Dated someone claiming to be sober. Got out immediately.
Well done on not drinking! I don’t know why somebody would say they were sober when they aren’t - particularly troubling to do so when trying to date somebody that is serious about their recovery. At least you got some experience for future situations.
True she knew I was there for alcohol. She apparently is sober.... From heroin and meth now. So there's that I guess
That’s genuinely great for her and should be applauded. Still wouldn’t appreciate somebody drinking around me if I expected them to be sober (if they said they drank, then it’s up to me to decide on my boundaries). Better to find out sooner than later
True it didn't bother me much, but she drove so was kinda stuck. Won't have my license until October. Side note tomorrow is 5 months sober!
Good on you to recognize that’s not the path you want to be on. Despite the beautiful package! (Attraction can really make us fall). This shows your strength!
I’m so sorry. What a bummer
Same thing.
Best to wait a year, have worked your steps and if Adult Child of Alcoholic/Dysfunction Family also, this will save you years of heart ache!
I applaud you for being brave enough to date period!
Kooky a - - world out there!!
Good for you man
I'm glad that you got out. I could tell you some crazy stories about mistakes that I made when I was younger in early sobriety. One of the dumbest mistakes I ever made was dating a woman that I met in the program of Alcoholics Anonymous when we both had way less than one year.
People tried to warn us both but we were too smart for anybody in the program and so we had to learn the hard way. They were six of the most miserable years of my life. My life got to be the way it did because of decisions I made that were based on SELF.
I never stopped to think about how my actions would affect other people. It was always about me, me, me. That woman and I have both made amends to each other and today we are friends with lots of years of sobriety.
Hahaha i had a similar situation recently… I’m not laughing at you just laughing bc I know exactly what it is! I went to a cooking class with this girl and some normal friends and we were having a great time… they drank wine and I was fine with it but she got crazy and started getting really testy and using lots of profanity and the other people in the class were very uncomfortable. She was OBLIVIOUS she thought everyone was having just a grand time like her. It made me sooo uncomfortable bc she was my guest and I had to like manage her. It reaffirmed that I really should stick to dating sober people. She’s clean from drugs “sober” but I didn’t know she was a drinker like that
