But a Shell

Are we active in our addiction or active in our recovery? If we say that we are active in recovery, then our past should appear to be but a shell of our current routine, mindset, etc.

I am grateful for life's learning and to understand that the pain and resistance come at a cost. However, they also serve a valuable purpose.
I am grateful for those who have paved the way. Those who support me and those who require support and provide me with purpose.
To have awoken, all of my needs met, to a new day.
That I have all the support, ability, and determination to succeed!

Josh Ua, so well said. I feel like I'm in a similar place as you. I am very active in recovery and prefer not to even think of it that way. More as a new, free life, but still rebuilding at the same time. Life is limitless again and the possibilities are as well. Helping others just makes me stronger. I am grateful to be in the place I'm in while fully understanding the road ahead will bend into new challenges.

Right the #*@%% on, my friend. I can honestly say there are a few things in life, like sobriety, which offer so much reward was so little effort. I say little effort, not at all to Discount The Blood The Sweat the struggle the grind, the fight, the fear, the pain and of course, the frustration! But in hindsight, the effort was minute as compared to the rewards!

Didn't it take less effort to get sober then it did to remain addicted? The fear of the first few days of sobriety is worse than the actual first few days themselves. We have power. We can be what we want to be. There are still struggles with various things but they are far better struggles than they used to be.
